AMERICAN SOCIETY OF INTERIOR DESIGNERS | SAN DIEGO CHAPTER
ASID is the oldest and largest professional organization for interior designers. While anyone can place a sofa and a rug in a living room, but there is much more to interior design than just putting things in place!
You don’t have to be “rich and famous” to use a professional interior designer. In fact, the professionals may help you save money by making sure you don’t make costly mistakes. Plus, they can give you ideas based on their training and experience that help your project become all that you desire. With their extensive background they can give you a broader perspective on your project.
While a few people hire interior designers because they know a specific designer can create a certain “look”, most designers begin with an assessment of the interests and needs of the client to create an environment that best expresses the personality of the individual or family group.
Professional interior designers pay close attention to the health, safety and welfare of the public through their education and experience. Beyond fine design and “looking good” the professional interior designer considers many factors including: building codes, government regulations, specifications, appropriate materials, safety, traffic flow, floor plan, lighting, technology, flammability standards, product performance. They can give you the most up-to date advice, because they keep up with the latest developments in the industry.
What does it take to become an ASID member?
There are two levels of ASID membership based on education, experience and examination. Full professional membership requires extensive education, combined with experience in the industry plus successful completion of a standardized professional examination.
Allied members are in the process of becoming professional members. They have completed some combination of the professional requirements, but haven’t completed all of the steps to full professional membership. Membership also includes industry partners, those in businesses who provide services and materials to the interior design profession.
Nationally ASID has approximately 30,000 members. The San Diego Chapter consists of over six hundred members and industry partners.
We encourage you to talk to ASID designers at the Fall Home/Garden Show, look at their portfolios, and find someone who suits your personality and needs. We’re here to help you maximize your enjoyment of your home.
